Cosmic Savour Seasoning Capsule

The Challenge: Practicality & Microgravity Taste

Astronauts need food that is practical for space travel. Our project explores another essential part of that experience: taste.

Traditional seasoning methods may not always be convenient or manageable in a microgravity environment. Our project therefore asks:

“Can seasoning be made smaller, controlled and easier to use?”
That question became the core starting point for Cosmic Savour.
Microgravity Taste Exploration
Addressing the lost appetite and taste dullness experienced during extended space flight missions.
Compact & Controlled Dosing
Replacing bulky seasoning bottles with ultra-compact, precision-measured micro capsules.
Convenient & Zero-Mess
Eliminates floating spice particles and spills inside microgravity space cabin environments.
Our Proposed Solution

Concentrated Seasoning in a Capsule

Instead of depending only on separate seasoning containers, astronauts can select a micro-capsule based on the specific flavour required.

COMPACT
Small, highly concentrated quantities can be conveniently carried in capsule form.
CONTROLLED
Each capsule contains an exact, measured quantity for balanced meal seasoning.
LOW-MESS CONCEPT
The seasoning remains fully contained inside the edible matrix until it is used.
CHOICE OF FLAVOURS
Astronauts can select different spice capsule formulations depending on their meal.
School-Level Innovation Concept & Research Scope

Professional Scientific Testing Roadmap

Cosmic Savour is currently a school-level innovation concept. Before any product like this could be used by astronauts, important areas would need professional scientific testing, including:

Food Safety
Ingredient Suitability
Dosage
Allergies
Shelf Life
Packaging
Storage
Microgravity Behaviour
Responsible Innovation Disclaimer: Our goal at this stage is to present and develop the idea, not to claim that the product is already approved for space use.

About Us

A Small Idea Inspired by a Big Challenge

Cosmic Savour is a student space-startup project created around one interesting question:

“How can we make food more flavourful for astronauts without depending on loose seasoning or larger seasoning containers?”

From this question, our seasoning capsule concept was developed. The project proposes placing concentrated seasoning in a small capsule format, making it compact and easier to carry.

Our initial concept focuses on three commonly used flavours:
🧂 Salt
Black Pepper
🌶️ Chilli
♻️
Reusable Aluminium Packaging
The original project also proposes reusable aluminium packaging as part of the business concept.
Our Mission

To explore a simple, compact and low-mess way of adding flavour to food during space travel.

We aim to combine:
Innovation
+
Simplicity
+
Space Research
+
Teamwork
Our Vision

To develop Cosmic Savour from a school-level idea into an increasingly practical and scientifically tested space-food concept.

Our long-term vision is to explore additional flavours, improve the product concept and learn how such an idea could potentially contribute to India's growing space sector.

CEO Message & Leadership Reflection

Space travel uses some of the world's most advanced technology, but astronauts can still face simple everyday challenges such as enjoying their food.

Our team created Cosmic Savour to explore one small part of this challenge. Our idea is a compact seasoning capsule that could provide flavour without requiring loose seasoning or larger bottles.

As CEO, my responsibility is to guide our project, coordinate our team and explain our idea clearly.

Cosmic Savour is currently a student project. We want to keep learning, improve our concept, introduce more flavours and understand how it could be properly tested for future space use.

Our idea may be small, but our vision goes beyond Earth.

Mission & Innovation

The Space Mission Challenge & Our Capsule Solution

Overcoming high rocket payload costs and astronaut sensory dullness with zero-mess micro-encapsulated seasonings.

The Challenge ₹1,500 – ₹1,600 / kg

Bland Space Food & High Payload Weight

When astronauts eat their food, it is completely bland because scientists cannot add loose seasoning due to severe weight constraints on rockets.

  • Heavy Launch Payload Costs: Every kilogram of cargo costs ₹1,500 to ₹1,600 to transport into space.
  • Sensory Dullness Risk: Consuming bland food continuously dulls astronaut bodily reactions and alertness, risking mission failure.
  • Liquid Seasoning Failures: Liquid alternatives create severe micro-gravity mess and add excessive weight.
Our Innovation 100% Edible & Safe

Concentrated Micro-Seasoning Capsules

Cosmic Savour creates compact micro-capsules delivering a strong, concentrated seasoning extract specifically tailored for space travel.

  • Focused Spice Extracts: Specifically concentrated Salt, Black Pepper, and Chilli powder formulations for MRE space food.
  • Zero-Mess Micro Packaging: Compact format eliminates floating spice particles and messy liquid leaks in micro-gravity.
  • Reusable Eco Materials: Uses reusable packaging materials and is 100% safe for astronaut consumption.
